Following the Leaders: An Inside Look at Precepting
The piece below is a study of nurse preceptors that I completed for Nurses' Lounge. I interviewed a number of nurses who mentored newcomers arriving at hospitals. It is an important role, serving as a preceptor for new nurses, and hospitals increasingly recognize that effective precepting can play a critical role in improving quality care as well as in retaining experienced hospital staff.

Second Career Nurses is a story commissioned by Ravenswood Hospital. For this piece I interviewed several people who chose nursing as a career after having established themselves in other fields. A description of Ravenswood's hospital-based nursing school is also a part of the story.
